The Play: Will Jones Space Adventure and the Money Formula helps children to learn to work with money through acting, song and dance. Once the book is read, the child can enhance their learning through the enjoyment of the play.

Overview of the story so far:

Will and Ben have been abducted to the Planet of Spectron; they have traveled to Spectron in a spacecraft. While Will and Ben are communicating with the King of Spectron, a Space Elder brings the King the news that Spectron is under attack from the Grigans.

From TES (Times Education Supplement UK)

“Teaching money management in a fun and interesting way is a tall order. On the whole, most teachers do not feel they have the skills, knowledge or resources to tackle personal finance education.

Can Will Jones help? Context, narrative and purpose are three essential ingredients to feed dialogue and discussion, and the Will Jones resources for primary schools mix all three in a dynamic way.

Children join Will and Ben on a rich adventure set on the wealthy planet of Ozimoth, where they can find out more about how to manage money, and realise the importance of a money system, using a fictitious currency called Rupins.

The story and play aim to get children thinking more carefully about what to do with their money and the life choices they can make. The charming narrative is well written: the story would work well as a class reader and the play could be staged as an assembly…
The Rupins concept is a great place to start and children will enjoy the adventure…”

From the Children who have acted in the play

‘This is a very well written book. I very much like the language the author uses. It’s not too hard to understand and not too easy which would make it boring. The book never gets dull, it is always exciting. I just want to turn the pages. I would recommend this book for ages 6
– 10 years. This is a very exciting, adventure book.’

Emma Selwood

‘I thought this was a really good book, and it made me think about how I use my money, and how to make my money last until I need it. For
my evaluation I’ll give it 8/10.’
